Powell Park sits at the intersection of 10th and Powell at the site of the former Sisters Hospital. Led by Rotarian Tim Curry, the Rotary Club of Saint Joseph has breathed new life into this neighborhood park.
Once the site of a large Catholic hospital and nursing school, Powell Park sits amidst the historic Cathedral Hill neighborhood just North of downtown St. Joseph, MO.

The city parks department has done a nice job maintaining the mowing and sidewalks, but in recent years the park had fallen into a bit of disrepair. The Rotary Club of Saint Joseph, led by Rotarian Tim Curry, who grew up in the neighborhood next to the park, stepped in a few years ago to make some improvements. Work has included repainting the shelter and notably, planting and maintaining all of the beautiful flowers. One might even say that the Rotary's rejuvenation of the park has motivated the city to do even more to keep it in good condition, including recently fixing some benches that had been vandalized.

Tim Curry was at the park recently cleaning up the flowers, and had an interaction with a local resident who has a severe disability and who lives off the alley next to the church at 10th and Lincoln. She shared that the flowers have greatly enhanced her wheelchair rides around the neighborhood and the park, and thanked Tim and the club for their work.

The club is planning some further improvements to the park, and looks forward to sharing additional updates soon.
