The Rotary Club of Saint Joseph met with a bit of a lighter summer crowd of 26 people, including our program speaker, David Sandy, today, Wednesday, August 12 at the beautiful Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art. The meeting was presided over by club President Bill McCammon.
Spanky and Buckwheat's catering provided a pasta bar featuring spaghetti and lasagna, as well as garden salad.
There will be no Rotary Club social for the month of August (even the fun committee needs a vacation some times), but be on the lookout for an announcement about a September social event.
Black Bowls donations for this quarter (7/1 through 9/30) go to the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council. This supports their educational programs such as Safety Acres and Safety Town. We have their director, Frank Till, coming to present to the club at our September 9 meeting. Members can contribute on our Square site online or bring the cash to meetings.

Shoes for Orphan Souls Update (for 2026-2027 Campaign):
We'll get an official count towards the end of August, but we are likely somewhere in the vicinity of 200 pairs of shoes collected so far. Please be sure to keep an eye out for good deals on shoes (anything under $7 is a good deal). The campaign will run through May 2027.
Ralph Schank gave an update about the St. Joseph Marathon, being held 9/26. Our club will need volunteers to staff the 18th mile again. This is a fun and meaningful service project for our community. Please let Shelly Hulet or Ralph know if you can help.
Are you interested in learning more about Rotary? Rotary Leadership Institute is offering a virtual Part 1 (2 nights) on Tuesday, September 29 and Thursday, October 1 (from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. both nights). We have had many leaders from our club attend RLI in the past, and Erik McGuire is one of the facilitators, and Bill McCammon is on the planning committee. Even if you don't aspire to club or district leadership, this is a great way to learn more about how Rotary works and to meet other Rotarians from the district and beyond. The cost is only $15 and the club board voted to reimburse the cost to any participating Saint Joseph Rotarians. The Rotary Foundation Updates
Shelly Hulet reminded everyone that there is a new Rotary Foundation Dinner community sponsorship for $250 that gets a 1/4 page recognition in the dinner program, at the dinner, and online. 100 % of this sponsorship will go towards the Annual Fund. Please see Shelly if you are interested. Sponsors are not required to attend the dinner to participate.
There are 2 Golden Ticket raffles now live for this year, each with 150 tickets being sold for $100 each. One for sports and one for arts. Purchasers of tickets get 100 % Annual Fund credit for their purchase. NEED NOT ATTEND THE DINNER TO PURCHASE TICKETS OR TO WIN.
